November 19, 2016 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Maroon used a two-run third inning to take Game Three of Mississippi State's Maroon/White World Series, winning 3-1-0 against Digi Camo and Gray at Dudy Noble Field on Saturday.
With the victory, Maroon claimed the three-team series by a total score of 8-4-2. Sophomore Hunter Stovall's 3-for-5 day played a big role in Maroon's success.
Maroon got on the board first on a sac fly by junior Tanner Poole that drove in junior Brent Rooker in the first inning.
Digi Camo tied it up in the second on a bases-loaded walk to sophomore Hunter Vansau that scored freshman Denver McQuary.
Maroon then reclaimed the lead in the third with a two-out, two-run double by Stovall that drove in Poole and Rooker.
Sophomore Ryan Cyr pitched three solid shutout innings to help Maroon clinch the series.
The scrimmage concludes fall practices for MSU. The Diamond Dawgs will open the 2017 spring season in February.
