Rooker's Three-RBI Day Propels Maroon To Victory

STARKVILLE, Miss. -Â A balanced offense helped Maroon defeat Gray, 8-4, in Mississippi State's 16th fall baseball scrimmage on Saturday at Dudy Noble Field.
Junior Brent Rooker led the charge, going 2-for-3 and driving in three runs for the Maroon squad.
Maroon scored first in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by junior Brent Rooker that drove in senior Cody Brown.
Gray took the lead in the top of the second with four runs on five hits. Redshirt freshman Brant Blaylock led off with a single and was driven in by a double from junior Ryan Gridley. Gridley then was driven in by freshman Denver McQuary, was found home by way of a single by fellow freshman Dustin Skelton. Sophomore Cole Gordon then capped off the inning with an RBI single to score Skelton.
Maroon chipped away at the deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Redshirt junior Tanner Poole led the inning off with a double and was driven in by an RBI single by sophomore Elijah MacNamee, who advanced to second on a throwing error. MacNamee then found home on an RBI single by senior Josh Lovelady.
Maroon reclaimed its lead for good in the bottom of the fourth by scoring five runs on four hits.
True freshman Denver McQuary pitched a solid inning of relief for Maroon, striking out one.
The three-scrimmage weekend will come to a close Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. first pitch. Admission is free to all fall scrimmages and future first pitch times will be announced on social media.
