Maroon Collects 6-0 Shutout In Midweek Scrimmage

STARKVILLE, Miss. -Â A combined one-hitter from three pitchers and a pair of multiple-RBI performances at the plate allowed Maroon to collect a 6-0 win in five innings, Wednesday at Dudy Noble Field in the 11th fall scrimmage for Mississippi State.
The fall scrimmage slate will continue on Friday, November 4 with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

After posting a perfect first inning on defense, Maroon looked to take a lead in the home half of the inning. With the bases loaded on a single and a pair of Gray fielding errors, sophomore Cole Gordon skied a pitch to left field that was deep enough to score sophomore Jake Mangum from third and put Maroon ahead 1-0 on the sacrifice fly.
With a pair of runners in scoring position in the second, Mangum stepped to the plate and connected on a two-run double and later came around on a passed ball to cap a three-run frame that saw Maroon's lead grow to 4-0.
The offensive showing continued for the home team as back-to-back solo homers from Gordon and junior Ryan Gridley pushed the advantage to 6-0 in the third. Mangum then took the mound in the fifth for a perfect inning to clinch the shutout victory.The fall scrimmage slate will continue on Friday, November 4 with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
