Starters Shine In Friday Pitcher's Duel
November 11, 2016 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. -Â It was a pitcher's duel right down to the very end, with Maroon tying Gray in Mississippi State's 15th fall scrimmage at Dudy Noble Field on Friday.
Starters Riley Self and Konnor Pilkington pitched shutout baseball, each allowing just two hits apiece and combining for eight strikeouts.
Maroon found its way on the board first after redshirt freshman Brant Blaylock doubled down the right field line with two outs and found home on an error in the bottom of the fifth.
Gray evened it up with one swing of the bat when sophomore Cole Gordon hit a towering 390-foot homer to left field in the top of the sixth.
Self was stellar in his four innings of work, striking out five batters.
The Diamond Dawgs will continue their busy weekend with an 11 a.m. scrimmage on Saturday at Dudy Noble. Admission is free to all fall scrimmages and first pitch times will be announced on social media.
