After redshirting his initial season in Starkville, saw his playing time increase as his redshirt freshman season developed . . . 2008:
Played in all but one game (11 of 12) during his sophomore season . . . Only missed seeing playing time in the team’s Week 11 win over Arkansas . . . Made 10 hits, including one and one-half for loss (minus 8 yards), one-half of which was a quarterback sack (minus 5 yards) . . . Recorded a pair of tackles in the Bulldogs’ season opener at Louisiana Tech . . . Added one hit in Mississippi State’s SEC opener vs. Auburn . . . Had one more tackle a week later at Georgia Tech . . . Credited with one tackle, a half quarterback sack (minus 5 yards), in State’s mid-season win over Vanderbilt . . . Combined with Charles Burns on a 10-yard sack mid-way through the second quarter in the victory over the Commodores . . . 2007:
Played in eight games as a reserve defensive end for the Bulldogs during his redshirt freshman campaign . . . After not seeing action in the first five games of the year, he saw action in the final eight . . . Made four hits as a reserve at defensive end . . . Saw his first collegiate playing time against UAB in Week 6 . . . Made his first career tackle at West Virginia two weeks later . . . Added another hit in Week 11 at Arkansas, in the season-ending Battle For The Golden Egg win over Ole Miss, and in State’s 2007 AutoZone Liberty Bowl victory over Central Florida.
2006:
Redshirted his true freshman season.

Rated with the top 35 defensive linemen in the Midlands by Prep Star Magazine in its season-ending issue . . . Named first-team, Class 20-5A all-district selection on the defensive line in suburban Houston, Texas, by Texas High School Football.com . . . That recruiting website ranked him as the #11 defensive line prospect in the state of Texas . . . Credited with running a 4.8 in the 40-yard dash and with a 275-pound bench press max at the University of Houston combine run by the Rivals.com recruiting website . . . Also listed with a 32-inch vertical jump by Rivals . . . Helped lead Fort Bend Marshall to a 9-1 record during his senior season and a District 20 championship with a 7-0 mark in league play . . .
