STARKVILLE, Miss. – After 17 fall baseball scrimmages, including five under new head coach Andy Cannizaro, the stage is now set for Mississippi State's annual Maroon/White World Series at Dudy Noble Field.
The best-of-three series is set for Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 17-19, with Thursday and Friday first pitches slated for 4 p.m., followed by an 11 a.m. start time on Saturday ahead of MSU's final home football game of the year.
This year's edition features veterans from last season's Southeastern Conference regular season championship team, as well as a group of 17 promising new faces who have come in to help the Bulldogs capitalize on last year's performance.
MSU returns 2016 SEC Freshman of the Year and batting champ Jake Mangum along with 2016 MLB Draft pick Brent Rooker, who chose to return to school for his junior year. A pair of 2016 draft picks who passed on the pros highlight the group of 15 new faces--pitcher Graham Ashcraft, who was selected in the 12th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers and Dustin Skelton, drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 36th round.
