Three Event Wins, Three Top Five All-Time Marks Highlight Day 2 at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Mississippi State's track and field program claimed three event titles while putting three marks in the school's all-time Top Five at the Tennessee Relays on Friday night.
The Bulldogs recorded 10 personal-bests and posted the team's best mark of the season in nine individual events.
"We had a few athletes who really stepped up today," head coach Steve Dudley said. "We want to see them pushing each other and the way they set team bests today shows that kind of competition."
Marco Arop passed his teammate Dejon Devroe's for the fifth-fastest 800m time in school history while winning the event in 1:47.89. That time ranks sixth in the NCAA this season.
Nicolas Quijera won the javelin while surpassing his own third-best throw in school history. Quijera launched the implement, 79.75m (261-7) to move from 24th to 17th in the world this season and earn his first event win of the year. He had finished second in his three previous meets to teammate Anderson Peters who is currently competing in the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
On the women's side, Shannon Fair was the top collegiate finisher in the 5000m in 17:01.16.
Alicia Viveros broke the tie between herself and Nicola Wilson (2004) to take sole possession of MSU's freshman shot put record. Viveros placed ninth with a mark of 14.23m (46-8.25).
Faith Gilbert set two new personal bests, as the freshman continues to lead MSU in the 100m and 200m. Gilbert ran an 11.68 in the 100m and a 24.30 in the 200m. Both marks were wind-legal.
Shayla Broughton, who set personal bests in three of four events yesterday, closed the heptathlon with a career-best score of 5,059 points to finish third.
Long jumper Alexis Farley came up just 0.01m shy of her personal best and placed 10th with a jump of 5.90m (19-4.25).
