CAREER:
Third-year sophomore pitcher and former prep teammate of Bulldog catcher Cody Freeman at Collinsville High School • Has worked diligently to overcome a series of injuries that have hampered his career at MSU • Earned his first varsity letter and SEC Academic Honor Roll status in 2009.
2009:
Appeared in eight games as a redshirt freshman • Posted a 2-0 record with a 5.23 earned run average and registered 11 strikeouts over 10.1 innings • Made his collegiate debut with an inning of scoreless relief against Southern Miss (Mar. 17) at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. • Appeared in six SEC games (1-0, 8.44 ERA) with nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings • Made his SEC debut with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief against Auburn (Apr. 5) • Worked a season-longest 4.0 innings and picked up his first career win in State's 7-6 home win over Southern Miss (Apr. 8) • Notched his other win in his next outing, a 10-9 decision at Tennessee (Apr. 12) • Struck out a season-best three batters at Vanderbilt (Apr. 26) • One of an SEC-leading 19 Diamond Dogs on the 2009 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL:
Four-year starter and letterman at West Lauderdale High School • Coached by Jerry Boatner • Concluded his prep career with a 35-3 pitching record, three saves, and 306 strikeouts over the past three seasons • Starred as a pitcher and as a shortstop in leading the Knights to a 38-2 record the Class 4A state championship and a No. 2 national ranking by USA Today • Compiled a 12-0 record with a career-best 127 strikeouts and an 0.36 earned run average while hitting .450 with 41 RBI and 21 extra-base hits • Named to the Louisville Slugger All-American team, Gatorade Player of the Year in Mississippi, all-state, all-district and a Jackson Clarion-Ledger "Dandy Dozen" selection • Delivered complete-game, four-hitter and belted an RBI triple and an RBI single in the state title game against Terry HS • Earned all-state status as a junior in 2006 • Compiled an 8-2 record with a 1.70 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched • Also hit .438 with five home runs and 43 RBI • An all-state and all-district performer as a sophomore, posting an 8-0 record and a 1.93 ERA with 93 strikeouts and a .400 batting average with eight home runs • Also lettered three seasons in football at West Lauderdale HS.
