HIGH SCHOOL:
Four-year southpaw pitching standout at Hartselle High School • Coached by William Booth • Named to the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger High School All-American Team and honored both as the 2009 Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year and ASWA's Mr. Baseball • Compiled an 11-4 record with a 1.89 earned run average • Helped lead HHS to a 50-9 record, the state 5A championship and a No. 22 national ranking • Also hit .412 in 57 games with 68 hits, 20 home runs and 73 RBI • Compiled an .830 slugging percentage and a .535 on-base percentage in 2009 • Registered 111 strikeouts in 88-2/3 innings • Made 18 starts with eight complete games and two shutouts • Second-team MaxPreps All-American selection and tabbed by the Alabama Sports Writers Association as its Player of the Year and Hitter of the Year • Posted a 7-0 record with three saves and a 2.10 ERA as a junior in 2008 • Recorded 45 strikeouts in 40 innings, helping lead HHS to a 39-12 mark and an advancement to the semifinals of the state playoffs • Also hit .292 with 15 extra-base hits • Named to the 2008 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association All-Star competition in Troy, Ala., and invited to the East Coast Pro Showcase in Lakeland, Fla. • Posted a five-win, three-save season with a 3.25 ERA as a sophomore • Played summer league baseball in 2008 for the East Cobb (Marietta, Ga.)
