CAREER:
Fifth-year senior outfielder who began his collegiate career at Southern Miss • Coached two seasons at USM by current MSU assistant coach Lane Burroughs • Career .293 hitter with 76 starts in 108 games played at USM • Hit a league-best .380 and earned all-star honors as an outfielder last summer playing for league champ Bethesda (Md.) in the Cal Ripken Sr. League • Hails from the same Nettleton High School baseball program that produced MSU career hits leader Jeffrey Rea.
2009:
Played in 48 games and drew 39 starts while earning his first varsity letter in his first season of eligibility at MSU • Went 1-for-4 with a single and a stolen base in his MSU debut as the DH against Northern Illinois (Feb. 20) • Collected the first of his 11 multi-hit games a day later with a 2-for-4 showing against North Florida (Feb. 21) • Made team-high 30 starts in left field and a single start in right • Hit .279 with 39 hits and collected 21 RBI with 12 extra-base hits • Delivered three home runs, a grand slam at Hawaii (Mar. 5) and solo blasts at Arkansas (Mar. 27) and against Auburn (Apr. 3) • Registered a season-best three hits (two singles and a triple) in his SEC debut against South Carolina (Mar. 14) • Drew 18 walks • Hit .292 with starts in 20 of his 25 SEC games played • Went 13-for-31 (.419) with 10 RBI during an eight-game hitting streak (Mar. 5-14) • Made a brief career-first mound stint with an inning of no-decision relief pitching against Kentucky (Apr. 19) • Reached base with a hit, a walk or as a hit batsman in 36 of his 48 games played • Committed but one error in 47 defensive chances (.979) • Played summer league baseball in the Cal Ripken Sr. League, hitting a league-best .380 for the CRSL champion Bethesda (Md.) Big Train.
2008:
Sat out the 2008 season as a redshirt after transferring from USM.
2007 (USM):
Hit .303 while drawing 34 starts in 55 games played as a sophomore • Made 22 starts as the designated hitter and 12 in the USM outfield (11 in left field/1 in center field) • Legged out eight doubles, belted three home runs and drove in 30 runs • Delivered one of his roundtrippers against Mississippi State (Apr. 25) at Dudy Noble Field • Set a season-high for hits with a 4-for-5, two-double outing against Sam Houston State in the NCAA Oxford Regional • Also doubled twice in a season-best four-RBI outing against Rice (Mar. 3) • Finished the season with 11 multiple-hit game and eight multiple-RBI games.
2006 (USM):
Played in 52 games and drew 42 starts (28 in left field/14 as the DH) as a freshman at USM • Hit .286 with nine doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 43 RBI en route to Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team honors • Hit .343 against C-USA opponents, second-best on the club • Finished with 12 multi-hit and 14 multi-RBI games • Drove in a career-high five runs and matched a career-best with three hits against Dallas Baptist (Apr. 7) • Also registered three-hit games against Nicholls State (Feb. 15) and against Houston (April 16) • Named to the 2006 Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Six-time letter-winner and two-time all-state outfielder at Nettleton High School where he was coached by Brian Sutton • Hit .465 with eight doubles, three triples, three home runs and 42 RBI as a senior • Helped 20-14 NHS reach the quarterfinals of the 2005 state tournament • Hit .578 as a junior with 15 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 51 RBI and 18 stolen bases • Clarion-Ledger "Dandy Dozen" honoree, Division 2-3A MVP and Team MVP as a senior • Four-time all-area selection • Offensive MVP at 2005 Northeast Mississippi Coaches for Better Baseball Game and defensive MVP at Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star Game • Also lettered in basketball and football, where he was a three-time All-Division quarterback and punter • Member of the NHS Beta and Music clubs.
