Among five true freshmen to play for the Diamond Dogs in 2009 and one of four Floridians on the 2010 team • Positioned to challenge for playing time at shortstop or second base after drawing 21 starts as a freshman in 2009 • Joined four other MSU rookies on the 2009 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll.
2009:
True freshman middle infielder who appeared in 41 games • Drew 21 game-opening assignments, with 13 starts at shortstop and eight at second base • Hit .256 with 20 hits and eight RBI • Ranked second on the club with six sacrifice hits • Made his MSU debut as the starting second baseman against North Florida (Feb. 21) • Singled up the middle in his first career at-bat against UNF • Recorded his first career RBI with a run-scoring single in MSU's series-clinching 10-3 win over South Carolina (Mar. 14) • Doubled and singled in two runs against Southern Miss (Mar. 17) in Pearl, Miss., for his first career multi-hit and multi-RBI game • Also turned in a two-hit, two-RBI performance against Memphis (Mar. 25) • Turned in his first three-hit performance with a 3-for-4 outing against Middle Tennessee State (Apr. 22) • Went 8-for-15 (.533) and collected six of his eight RBI during a five-game hitting streak (Mar. 14-27) • Played in 21 SEC games, drawing 10 starts and posting a .189 batting average • Fielded at a .962 rate with but four errors in 106 defensive chances • Had a hand in 13 double plays • One of five Bulldog rookies named to the 2009 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll • Played summer league baseball with the Danville (Ill.) Five-year letterman as a middle infielder at Lakeland's McKeel Academy • Starred at shortstop and second base for coach Mike Long • Helped guide the McKeel Wildcats to a 23-7 record and a 3A District 10 championship in 2008 • Paced MA with a .400 batting average, 36 hits, 25 RBI, nine doubles and three triples in 30 games • Also registered 22 stolen bases in 23 attempts en route to second-team all-state and first-team All-Polk County honors as a senior • Honored as the 3A District 10 Player of the Year, was named to the Polk County Senior All-Star Team and Polk County Athletic All-Academic Team • 2008 Preseason Under Armour All-American selection • Hit .384 with 28 stolen bases as a junior • Third-team Class 3A Florida All-State and first-team All-Polk County selection in 2007 • Invited to compete in the Under Armour All-American Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. • Hit a team-leading and career-best .458 his sophomore season with 72 hits and 20 stolen bases en route to earning second-team all-state and all-county plaudits in 2005 • Established school career record for batting average (.400), hits (146), triples (14) and stolen bases (83) • Honored as McKeel Academy's 2008 Male Athlete of the Year • Member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society.
