Bulldogs Collect Five Medals on Final Day of SEC Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mississippi State recorded one of its best finishes of the decade at the SEC Outdoor Championships with a combined 94 points between the men and the women.

MSU's men finished eighth with 57 points, their highest total since 2012 and best finish since 2015. The Bulldog women scored 37 points to finish 11^th. Both teams posted their third-highest score since 2010. The combined total is behind only 2015 (103 points) and 2010 (100 points) in that span.

The Bulldogs won medals in five events on Saturday to collect nine over the span of the competition.

"Every single event group performed at a high level today, from sprints to jumps to throws to distance to close the night," interim head coach Chris Woods said. "I'm extremely proud of how we finished off our regular season. We started this year without a lot of expectations and here we are with our highest finish on the men's side since 2015."

Seniors had big days for the Bulldogs. Tiffany Flynn broke her own school record twice in the triple jump to win silver. She was fifth in the conference entering the meet, but leapt a wind-aided 13.87m (45-6.25) to propel herself onto the podium.

Rasheed Tatham, who entered the weekend at No. 13 on the SEC performance list in the 400m hurdles, clocked the fourth-fastest time in school history in that event on Friday before winning bronze in 50.35 on Saturday.

In the men's 800m, State saw three athletes score points. Marco Arop was the SEC runner-up for the second straight year. Meanwhile, Daniel Nixon finished sixth, and Dejon Devroe placed eighth to give MSU a dozen points from that event.

"We had a strong day three," Woods continued. I'm proud of how our team pulled together and stayed on course to achieve our goals. Our goal as a staff is to continue that going into the East Prelims. We're happy with how we competed on the conference level, but we cannot be complacent."

Lester Miller finished seventh in the 100m, running an MSU-career-best 10.22. That was just 0.03 seconds shy of his lifetime best. Riley White was seventh in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best 58.80 to improve her No. 3 mark in school history.

In the jumps, Gralyn Jones broke his personal best with a leap of 15.36m (50-4.75), but came up just seven centimeters shy of scoring in the triple jump. Logan Boss won a bronze medal in the high jump.

Stephen Jones returned to the track a day after earning a second-place finish in the steeplechase to score in the 5000m. Jones improved his fourth-fastest time in school history, crossing the line in 14:08.67 to place seventh. Luke Zacharias broke his personal-best in the event by nearly 18 seconds just two days after competing in the 10,000m.
