JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mississippi State begins its journey to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the NCAA East Prelims on Thursday on the campus of North Florida.
Twenty-eight Bulldogs qualified for the postseason, surpassing the previous MSU record of 24 athletes set in 2016. MSU will see five first-time qualifiers in the individual events with four additional first-timers running on relays.
The top-48 individuals in the East Region qualified for each event. In the relays, the top 24 schools made the meet. Most running events will go through two rounds to cut to a dozen athletes that will advance to Austin, Texas, for the Championships in June. Any distance races beyond the 1500m will run just one round and take the top 12 finishers.
Field events will offer all athletes three attempts, instead of giving the top nine an additional three throws for finals. The top 12 athletes after three attempts advance to Austin.
