Two-RBI Single By Zinn Gives Maroon Game 2 Victory
October 17, 2015 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Delvin Zinn's two-RBI single with two outs in the top of the seventh was the difference in Maroon's 4-2 come-from-behind victory against Gray Friday night in Game 2 of Mississippi State baseball's Bulldog World Series. Maroon can clinch the best-of-five series Saturday at 3 p.m. when Game 3 takes place at Dudy Noble Field. Admission is free.
Zinn, who scored the walk-off run in Game 1 this past Wednesday, finished 1 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Brent Rooker also went 1 for 3 for Maroon, hitting a solo home run to left.
Maroon's pitching trio of freshman left-hander Ethan Small, junior right-hander Logan Elliot and junior righty Cole Barlow combined to toss six innings of two-run ball.
Heading to the seventh inning, Gray led 2-0 thanks to an RBI double from junior Luke Reynolds in the second and a run scored in the third courtesy of great baserunning from sophomore Ryan Gridley.
Rooker ended the shutout in the top of the seventh when he launched a solo shot with no outs to the Left Field Lounge. Following two walks, an infield flyout and a force out at second base, Maroon drew two more base on balls to load the bases. On a full count with two outs in the seventh and the tying run on third, freshman outfielder Brant Blaylock worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at two.
Zinn then stepped to the plate and roped a single up the middle on a 1-1 offering, allowing Maroon to take a 4-2 lead it would never relinquish.
Game 2 marked the Bulldogs' 17th scrimmage overall this fall.
