2024 (Sophomore Season)
Season: Named First Team All-SEC (SS) … Finalist for The Brooks Wallace Award, the top shortstop in the nation … Earned NCAA Charlottesville All-Regional Team honors (SS) … Finished second in the SEC with 27 stolen bases … His 27 stolen bases are tied for fourth in program history … Appeared and started in 58 games, 43 at shortstop, 11 at second base and four as the designated hitter … Finished with 77 hits and 41 walks which ranked second on the team and 41 RBIs landed in fourth most among the team … He hit .347 on the season, the second best on the team and the ninth best mark in the SEC.
Georgia Southern (2/23-25): Went 6-for-13 in the series with a double and five RBIs. Jackson State (2/27): Picked up four RBIs with a double in three plate appearances. Mount St. Mary’s (2/29-3/2): Ended the series 7-for-12 at the plate with three RBIs, a double and a triple. Southern Miss (3/5): Picked up a double and an RBI in three at bats. Evansville (3/8-10): Grabbed two doubles and an RBI in the series. South Alabama (3/12): Picked up two hits with a double in five plate appearances. New Orleans (3/13): Batted out a walk. LSU (3/15-17): Stole a season-high four bases. Memphis (3/19): Hit first homerun of the season and a double through five at bats. Texas A&M (3/21-23): Drove in a single run and had three hits in the series. Samford (3/26): Picked up a pair of RBIs. Florida (3/29-31): Had an RBI in all three games of the series and a home run. Central Arkansas (4/2): Picked up a hit and an RBI in the midweek matchup. Georgia (4/5-7): Had three hits and two runs scored through the series. Ole Miss (4/12-14): Totaled four RBIs and four hits in 14 plate appearances. Alcorn State (4/16): Walked three times and scored two runs in the midweek action. St John’s (5/31): Ended the game 1-for-3 in the batter’s box with two walks. Virginia (6/1): Scored a run with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. St. John’s (6/2): Collected a pair of RBIs and a home run in five at bats. Virginia (6/2): Ended the day 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
2023 (Freshman Season)
Season: Played in 30 games while making 25 starts, with 17 of those starts at Shortstop in his true freshman season … Also earned starts at third base and second base … Accumulated a .280 batting average on 23 hits … Was third on the team in stolen bases with 12 while also tallying five RBIs and 20 walks … Had a season-best five game hitting streak.
Valparaiso (3/7): In his first ever collegiate game, he went two-for-three with one run scored and also recorded a walk … Lipscomb (3/10-11): Went one-for-three, scored one run and stole two bases in game two against the Bisons … Arkansas State (3/21): In the midweek matchup, he went two-for-five and scored two runs … Ole Miss (4/15-16): Crossed the plate and recorded a hit once in each game … Drew a walk and had a stolen base in the second game. Auburn (4/21-23): Drove in an RBI while going two-for-three at the plate in game one. Picked up a walk in each of the three games and a stolen base in game two against the Tigers … Tennessee (4/27-29): Accumulated another multi-hit game while also scoring a run in game one. Tallied two stolen bases, one in game one and one in game two … Arkansas (5/5-7): Recorded one hit, one stolen base and a season-high four walks in game one against the razorbacks … LSU (5/12-14): Loaded up the stats sheet in games two and three against the Tigers. In game two, he went two-for-four with one RBI, one walk and one stolen base … In game three, he set a season-high in hits with four, going four-for-five at the plate, scoring three runs, drawing two walks and stealing two bases.

Played at Eastside High School for coach Scott Erwin… Helped guide Eastside HS to a state title in 2019 and 2022... Was named All-State in 2019, 2021 and 2022… Lost his sophomore season because of the Covid pandemic… Was the Diamond Prospects 4A Player of the Year… Hit over .400 every year in high school, .415 batting average as a freshman, .430 batting average as a junior and .500 as a senior… tallied 20 stolen bases as a senior… Hit seven home runs over his high school career.

Full name is David Charles Heenen Mershon… Born on May 24, 2003, in Taylors, S.C… Son of Brian and Tracey… Has four brothers, Nicholas, Joseph, Peter, William and two sisters, Lindsey and Catherine… His father Brian played baseball at Illinois and spent the 1987 season in the Cincinnati Reds organization… His uncles Chris and Mark played baseball at Northern Illinois, while his uncle Michael played at Illinois… His brother Nicholas played at Furman, while his brother Joseph currently plays at College of Charleston… His cousin Noah played baseball at UW-Whitewater… His sister Lindsey played soccer at Christendom College… He played in the Little League World Series in 2015 with Northwood Little League out of Taylor, S.C.
