CAREER: Drafted in the sixth round (182nd overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees and left MSU after agreeing to a contract with a signing bonus of $170,000 • One of the most accomplished closers in NCAA baseball history, with MSU going 110-1 when leading after the eighth inning in his three seasons on campus • Named a 2013 consensus All-American and earned 2012 consensus Freshman All-America honors • Mississippi State’s career and single-season record holder for saves (37/21) • Finished his collegiate career ranking fourth in SEC history and 16 shy of the NCAA record with 37 career saves • Became one of nine players in NCAA history to record 21-plus saves in a single season with 21 in 2013 • Along with South Carolina’s Blake Taylor (2002), is the SEC single-season saves record holder (21 in 2013) • Also left school holding the school record for consecutive scoreless innings with 27.1 as a freshman in 2012 • Owned a 1.59 career ERA in 81 career relief appearances, having gone 11-2 with 191 strikeouts in 135.2 innings pitched • Boasted a microscopic 0.99 ERA in 36 career games inside the SEC, striking out 88 in 63.1 innings of work • Ended his junior campaign first among active NCAA players in career saves (37) and second in career strikeouts per nine innings (12.67) • Three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
2014: Member of the 2014 NCAA Lafayette Regional All-Tournament Team • Went 7-1 with a 2.22 ERA, including a perfect 2-0 mark in SEC play • Recorded a team-high seven saves, with six of them coming in conference play • Pitched in three shutouts • Struck out three in two innings of relief against No. 1 Louisiana-Lafayette in the NCAA Lafayette Regional • Fanned a career-high nine batters to pick up his seventh win of the season in the Lafayette regional victory against Jackson State, tossing 5.1 innings of one-hit, shutout baseball • Earned his sixth win of the season May 20 in the 5-4 SEC Tournament win vs. Georgia • Collected his seventh save of the season with five strikeouts in 2.2 shutout innings May 16 at No. 19 Alabama • Registered his fifth win of the season May 10 with seven strikeouts in 3.2 hitless innings of relief • Recorded his sixth save of the season May 2 at Auburn thanks to a hitless ninth • Picked up his fifth save of the year with four strikeouts in 2.2 innings of shutout relief April 24 vs. Texas A&M • Tallied his fourth win of the season with 5.1 innings of relief April 18 at Missouri, striking out six batters in a 3-2, 11-inning win • Collected his third win of the year with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings in the 4-3 extra-inning victory against Southern Miss April 8 • Closed out a 5-1 win vs. Arkansas March 30th for his fourth save of the season, striking out three in 1.2 scoreless innings • Earned his second win of the season March 25 with two shutout innings of relief vs. Southeast Missouri • Closed out a 6-3 win vs. No. 3 Vanderbilt on ESPNU for this third save of the year March 22 • Recorded his second save of the season March 15 in game two of the doubleheader sweep at Georgia, striking out three after entering the game with a 3-1 lead and runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the eighth • Picked up his first win of the season March 9 at Arizona, pitching a career-long 5.2 innings out of the bullpen, tallying 13 flyouts in the process • Earned his first save of the season with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief vs. Western Carolina Feb. 15 • Named a preseason All-American by the NCBWA, Louisville Slugger, Perfect Game and Baseball America • Preseason All-SEC by Perfect Game • Member of the Golden Spikes Award and NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Watch List • Top-250 prospect for the 2014 MLB Draft according to Perfect Game • Member of the 2014 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll.
2013: Tied South Carolina’s Blake Taylor’s 2002 SEC single-season record with a school-best 21 saves, becoming one of nine players in NCAA history to accomplish the feat • A consensus All-American, earning first-team honors from Louisville Slugger, Baseball America and the NCBWA, as well as second-team honors from College Baseball Insider • Finalist for the ABCA Stopper of the Year Award, while also earning ABCA All-South Region Second-Team honors • Named to the All-SEC First Team • As a closer, finished in the Top-75 nationally and seventh in the SEC with a team-high 90 total strikeouts • Tallied a 14.8 K/9 ratio, which would have led the NCAA and tied for 10th in college baseball history had it met the minium requirements • Recorded a 1.65 ERA in 34 appearances out of the bullpen, going 2-0 in 54.2 innings of work • Held opponents to a .175 batting average • His total number of relief outings tied for third all-time at MSU in a single season for both total appearances and total relief appearances • Did not give up an earned run from March 19-May 23, a span of 19 appearances and 32.2 innings on the mound • Tossed 26.1 scoreless innings during the stretch, coming an inning away from the school record he set in his debut campaign in 2012 • Struck out a career-high seven batters vs. Auburn on April 18 • Broke the single-season school record with his 14th save vs. Oral Roberts May 14 • Pitched 3.2 scoreless innings in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala. • Picked up the save in the series-clinching win of the NCAA Charlottesville Super Regional vs. Virginia June 9, striking out two in as many innings • Earned the save in all three of MSU’s victories in Omaha at the NCAA College World Series • Pitched a career-high 4.0 innings June 25 in game two of the CWS Championship Series vs. UCLA June 25 • Member of the 2013 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll • Named a Top-250 prospect for the 2014 MLB Draft by Perfect Game • Played for Wareham Gateman of the Cape Cod League in summer ball.
2012: Named a consensus freshman All-American (Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, NCBWA, Perfect Game) • Carded a 2-1 record with nine saves (tied for seventh in SEC) and a remarkable 0.32 ERA in 24 appearances • Recorded 30 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run in 28.1 innings pitched • Set school record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched, opening his career with 27.1 innings of shutout pitching • Made his collegiate debut retiring the two batters he faced against Washington State Feb. 17 • Recorded his first career save with two shutout, no-hit innings of relief against Mississippi Valley State Feb. 26 • Earned his first career win and pitched a season-longest 2.2 innings against Lipscomb March 4 • Struck out a season-best four in State’s shutout win against South Alabama April 14 • Earned a win and eight saves in his final 11 outings • Five of those saves came during his 11 SEC relief appearances (0.00, 11 strikeouts, 11.2 innings pitched) • Went 1-0 with three saves in four SEC Tournament relief stints in Hoover, Ala., to join two other Bulldogs on the 2012 SEC All-Tournament Team • Represented MSU on the 2012 SEC All-Freshman Team • Named to the 2012 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll • Finished with a 3-1 record, two saves and a 1.99 ERA last summer in 14 relief appearances (22.2 innings pitched) with Cape Cod Collegiate League champion Wareham Gateman.
