Turning Up The Dude: The 2024 Walk-Up Playlist
February 14, 2024 | Baseball, Joel Coleman
Take a peek at the songs that will welcome the Diamond Dawgs to the plate or mound in the season ahead.
STARKVILLE – "You can run on for a long time…Run on for a long time…Run on for a long time…Sooner or later God'll cut you down."
If you're a true Mississippi State baseball fan, only one image could come to mind with the reading of those song lyrics: Jonathan Holder trotting in from the bullpen near the left-field foul pole at Dudy Noble Field, just about to slam the door shut on an opponent's dreams of a ninth-inning comeback.
Ahhh, what sweet memories.
Make no mistake about it, walk-up/walk-out music is special in Starkville. It's the soundtrack of springs on campus. It fires up the Maroon and White faithful. It sets the scene for the Dude Effect to take over. And, like with Holder, when the combination is just right, magic happens and a song is sometimes forever associated with the player that picked it. Â
Perhaps such a thing will happen again in 2024. At the very least, this year's selection of player walk-up/walk-out songs will have you tapping your foot, ringing your bell in rhythm or singing along.
