AUBURN, Ala. – For the third time this fall, Mississippi State's women's tennis team will hit the road for a tournament.
Chris Hooshyar's Bulldogs begin the ITA Southern Regional Championship on Thursday hosted at Auburn's Yarbrough Tennis Center.
State is sending eight players to The Plains and open with Athina Pitta and Emma Cohen in the qualifying draw of singles. Pitta is taking on Troy's Emilia Namysla on Thursday at 9 a.m. while Cohen tries to extend her winning streak to three by battling Mariia Iordanova of Louisiana-Monroe at 11 a.m.
Cohen and Pitta found success at the Samford Round Robin #2 last weekend, each posting a pair of singles wins along with two doubles victories together. The Bulldogs also collected 10 triumphs during their opening tournament last month at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic.
The rest of the Bulldogs participating in the six-day event are expected to join the fray on Friday morning to begin the doubles main draw followed by the first round of the singles main draw later in the day.
