Peters Launches Himself Among World Leaders, Bulldogs Claim 20 Top 10 Finishes
March 23, 2018 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Redshirt freshman Anderson Peters now holds the top mark in the NCAA and fourth-longest in the world in javelin this year after launching the implement 81.95m (268-10.75).
The Bulldogs went first and second in the javelin for the second straight week. Both Peters and Nicolas Quijera set new collegiate bests, but Peters passed Quijera for second in school history.
"I'm very happy with our javelin guys today," head coach Steve Dudley said. "Anderson's a big-time thrower, so we expect those kinds of numbers out of him. He's put up even bigger throws in international competition, so we're looking forward to what else he can do this season."
Brianna Smith led off the day with a win in the hammer throw. Tiffaney Johnson finished fourth in the event with a personal best of 50.55m (165-10).
The Bulldogs won four of the six relays on the first day. It appeared MSU had also claimed the women's shuttle hurdle relay, but they were later disqualified. The women's 4x200m placed second, just behind Missouri State.
The Bulldogs also picked up nine personal bests. Gralyn Jones set a personal best in the triple jump, placing second with a jump of 15.02m (49-10.5). Rahseed Tatham placed third in the 400m with a personal-best time of 47.19.
