January 15, 2026 | Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Mississippi State track and field will begin the 2026 indoor season at the Samford Invite, hosted by Samford, on Friday.
The meet will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The Bulldogs will face off against several schools in the region, including South Alabama, Kennesaw State, Arkansas State, Samford, and UAB.
Events will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Running events will kick off at noon with the women's 60m preliminary round, followed shortly after by the men.
Tomorrow, 54 Bulldogs will compete in 26 events on the track, in the ring and on the runway. Of those competing, 21 Bulldogs will be making their MSU debuts.
Three First-Team All-Americans from the last indoor season will don the Maroon and White tomorrow in Sherman Hawkins, Christion Barker and Nicholas Fakorede. Fakorede is set to compete in the 60m, as he holds the second-fastest time in program history at 6.56, which he ran last season.
On the women's side, Kyndall Sessom will race in the 60m, looking to extend her program record set last season. In the throws, Tafada Wright is set to compete in the shot put and weight throws, where she holds spots on the program's all-time list for both.
