State falls to No. 8 LSU in Baton Rouge
March 27, 2025 | Baseball
BATON ROUGE, La. – Mississippi State was in the driver's seat after scoring at least a run in each of the first five innings, but a five-run bottom of the fifth inning for No. 8 LSU put the brakes on the Diamond Dawgs as the Tigers came away with an 8-6 win on Thursday night at Alex Box Stadium.
State led 6-2 following the top of the fifth before LSU's game-changing rally. The Diamond Dawgs ended the night with eight hits, three of them leaving Alex Box Stadium.
Ace Reese, Hunter Hines and Joe Powell all hit homers for MSU. Hines finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Reese collected a pair of hits through four at bats with two RBIs. Powell also drove in two runs in the game and finished 1-for-3 at the plate.
Evan Siary drew the start on the mound for State. Siary put in three solid innings of work and punched out three with a single earned run surrendered. Chase Hungate tossed 3 1/3 strong frames in relief, allowing just a run and one hit while punching out a batter. Nate Williams also had a brief showing out of the Bulldog bullpen, facing two Tigers and striking them both out. Dane Burns was charged with the loss for State as his record fell to 1-1.
