November 06, 2024 | Men's Tennis
Mississippi State will be well represented in a pair of Intercollegiate Tennis Association tournaments that start on Thursday.
No. 60 Mario Martinez Serrano and Niccolo Baroni carry the Bulldog banner into the ITA South Sectional Championships in Tallahassee, Florida while MSU's No. 1 ranked doubles duo of Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez compete at the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Georgia.
The ITA Conference Masters Championships get underway on Thursday but Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez received a first-round bye and will face the winner between Bucknell's Brendan McDonald and Amar Tahirovic or Tristan Sarap and William Zulch of Weber State on Friday.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez have already qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships as singles but are attempting to qualify in doubles at that event as well with a first, second or third place finish.
Baroni and Martinez Serrano are also trying to earn a spot in NCAAs with strong showings at the ITA South Sectional Championships.
Baroni opens against Erik Schiessel of Florida State on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. CT while Martinez Serrano matches up against Georgia's 28th-ranked Ryan Colby at 11 a.m. Baroni and Martinez Serrano will team up later in the afternoon against Georgia Tech's Christophe Clement and Krish Arora at 1:45 p.m.
