More Bulldogs Make NCAA Bids

Mississippi State men's tennis put on a show on Saturday with two doubles teams as well as one singles competitor punching tickets to the NCAA Individual Championships later this month.
No. 12 Petar Jovanovic and No. 107 Benito Sanchez Martinez had already clinched a single's spot in the NCAA field but have now qualified in doubles as well. Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez, the top-ranked team in the country, downed Hawaii's Quinn Snyder and Azuma Visaya 7-6(4), 6-3 in the semifinals of the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Georgia on Saturday to earn their way to NCAAs in both singles and doubles.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez have yet to drop a set at the ITA Conference Masters Championships and meet Notre Dame's 46th-ranked tandem of Sebastian Dominko and Peter Nad in the finals on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.
However, those won't be the only Bulldogs competing in the NCAA Individual Championships. Niccolo Baroni and Mario Martinez Serrano will be joining them in Waco, Texas after taking down Tennessee's Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno, 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday and earning third place at the ITA South Sectional Championships in Tallahassee, Florida.
Baroni also qualified for NCAAs in singles as well after knocking off No. 86 Oscar Pinto Sansano of Georgia 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. It was Baroni's third-straight singles win at the ITA South Sectional Championships and second consecutive over a ranked opponent having defeated Moreno – ranked 111th in singles – on Friday.
