Turning Up The Dude: The 2023 Walk-Up Playlist
February 14, 2023 | Baseball, Joel Coleman
New (and familiar) tunes will fill the air at Dudy Noble Field this season.
STARKVILLE – Kellum Clark was ready for a change, and starting this weekend, you'll be able to hear it.
When Mississippi State opens up its season against VMI, the Bulldog junior outfielder will debut his new walk-up song – "Should've Been A Cowboy" by Toby Keith.
For Clark's first two seasons in Starkville, he stepped to the plate with Eminem's "So Bad" blaring. It served Clark well, but now, Clark has gone country.
"When I walked up the last couple of years, I just kind of had something that got me going, but I feel like that's not really the point of the walk-up song," Clark explained. "So, I wanted to do something that got me and the fans both going a little bit. I feel like country music around this area of the country is big, so I thought it was a good fit."
Don't panic though, Eminem fans. You'll still hear his music anytime Nate Dohm takes the mound in 2023. The selections of Clark and Dohm highlight a robust walk-up/walk-out song playlist that spans multiple decades and genres. There's likely to be a little something that suits everyone.
Clark is especially looking forward to one tune. He aided in the selection of pitcher Aaron Nixon's walk-out. In the vein of former Bulldog closer Jonathan Holder, Nixon will also use a Johnny Cash track. Same artist, different song though. Nixon is going with "Ain't No Grave".
"I wanted it, but it's too long for a hitter so I let him have it," Clark said.
Another Clark favorite? Freshman outfielder Dakota Jordan's. Known as DJ by his teammates, Jordan fittingly picked Lil Wayne's "Go DJ".
What other songs will have you tapping your feet, clapping or singing along this spring? Here's the full Mississippi State walk-up/walk-out song playlist for 2023:
