
State Wins Big in Series Opener at Mizzou

The Diamond Dawgs had 20 hits on the night to take a 1-0 series lead over the Tigers
Every Mississippi State starter had a hit in the series-opening win with five Diamond Dawgs recording multi-hit games. RJ Yeager accounted for driving in five of State's 13 runs on the night with a pair of home runs and a double, while Kellum Clark had a home run and a double while driving in three. Kamren James also had a double and home run with two RBIs and Jess Davis drove in two on the night.
Brandon Smith (3-3) gave Mississippi State a quality start in 7.1 innings on the mound, while striking out eight and walking two to earn the victory for the Dawgs. Drew Talley came on in relief and struck out two in the final 1.2 innings. Mizzou starter Tony Neubeck (3-2) was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits in four innings.
Offensively, State's lineup was 9-for-25 (.360) with runners on base and hit .333 (5-for-15) with runners in scoring position.

Mississippi State took an early lead when RJ Yeager led off the game with a solo home to leftfield for his 13th long ball of the season.

Kellum Clark led off the second with a single to center and later came around to score on an RBI double down the leftfield line by Yeager.

Kamren James started off the fourth with a double down the leftfield line and came around to score on an RBI single through the right side by Lane Forsythe. RJ Yeager then hit his second home run of the game and 14th of the season to drive in two more runs.

State put together a four-run inning that began with back-to-back singles by Hunter Hines and Brad Cumbest, followed by a walk by Kellum Clark to load the bases. Kamren James drove in one on a single to center before Jess Davis roped a two-run double in the leftfield corner. Yeager capped off the inning with his fifth RBI of the game on a ground ball to the left side of the infield.

Mizzou got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth when RF Ross Lovich led off the half inning with a solo home run to left.

Top Sixth
Logan Tanner and Hunter Hines led off the sixth with back-to-back singles before advancing on a wild pitch and then both scoring on a two-run double by Kellum Clark to give State a 10-run lead.

Kellum Clark and Kamren James hit back-to-back solo home runs in the top half of the eighth to extend State's lead to 11.

Bottom Eighth
Mizzou added two runs in the bottom half on a solo home run to right field by Luke Mann and a sacrifice fly by Ross Lovich.

Mizzou's final run of the night came on a solo home run in the ninth by pinch hitter Justin Colon.
