Dawgs Top No. 14 Auburn In Walk-Off Fashion

The Dawgs score two runs in the ninth to defeat the Tigers
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State (20-15, 5-8 SEC) rallied late in the game after loading the bases twice, scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game before a walk-off walk to defeat No. 14 Auburn (23-11, 7-6 SEC), 7-6, in game one of the series on Thursday night, April 14, at Dudy Noble Field in front of 10,663 in attendance.
The Bulldogs kicked off Super Bulldog Weekend in superb fashion after taking an early lead in the first and kept that lead until the sixth inning when Auburn scored three runs. However, the Dude Effect was in full force entering the bottom of the ninth when the Bulldogs came from behind to win game one after Luke Hancock drew a bases-loaded walk to secure the walk-off win.
For MSU, Parker Stinnett (4-1) entered the game in the ninth when the Dawgs were down, 6-5, and pitched a scoreless inning to give the team a chance in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Smith started the game and allowed two runs on six hits during his five innings on the mound and was followed by Brooks Auger, Drew Talley, Pico Kohn and Stinnett.
Auger pitched two-thirds of an inning to collect three strikeouts and allowed three runs on two hits, while Talley entered to face and strikeout a batter to collect his 16th strikeout of the year. Kohn entered in the eighth inning when the game was tied, 5-5, and allowed one run on one hit before Stinnett came on in relief at the start of the ninth.
Despite being out hit by Auburn, Mississippi State came through when it mattered including two home runs in the seventh to tie the game and then tying it again in the ninth before walking it off, 7-6, with Hancock's bases-loaded walk.
Brad Cumbest led off the seventh inning with a home run to left field followed by a solo home run, also to left field, by RJ Yeager two batters later to collect his 10th on the year. Hunter Hines collected two RBIs as the designated hitter – one in the first on a sacrifice fly and one in the third after a single up the middle.

The Bulldogs started Super Bulldog Weekend off strong by scoring two runs in the first after a RJ Yeager walk and a Kamren James walk followed by a Luke Hancock single up the middle to load the bases. Logan Tanner singled through the left side which scored Yeager. Hunter Hines hit a sacrifice fly to bring home James.

Auburn took the lead for the first time in the game after a Brody Moore walk followed Bobby Peirce who reached on a fielding error by MSU. Foster singled to third base which loaded the bases followed by a LaRue walk which brought in Moore. Blake Rambusch singled to right field which scored Peirce and Foster – both runs were unearned.

The Bulldogs tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh inning when both Brad Cumbest and Yeager hit solo home runs to left field.

The Bulldogs scored two runs to win the game after Kellum Clark walked and reached second on an error followed by Cumbest who reached on a fielder's choice. Both runners moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Tanner Leggett. Yeager was intentionally walked before Clark scored the tying run on a wild pitch. Auburn then intentionally walked James to load the bases again before Hancock drew the game-winning walk.
