March 05, 2018 | Men's Golf
AUBURN, Ala. – Senior Taylor Grant shot a season-best 68 in the second round of the Tiger Invitational Monday at the RTJ Grand National Lake Course in Auburn, Ala.
Grant's performance helped Mississippi State move up a spot on the leaderboard into a tie for second with Maryland at 2-over par.
"The guys showed a lot of resiliency and toughness, and were able to scrape together a solid round," MSU head men's golf coach Dusty Smith said. "Taylor Grant did what senior leaders are supposed to do. He played a huge round for us when we really needed it."
"It was a great day today," Grant said. "I felt in control throughout the round and made some good birdies coming in. We put ourselves in another good position to finish strong tomorrow."
Grant, now 5-under for the tournament, will head into Tuesday's final round in a tie for third, and three strokes off the individual lead.
Peng Pichaikool is MSU's next-best through two rounds. The sophomore is even and tied for 17th.
Sophomore Garrett Johnson is now tied for 32nd after a 3-over day, and Cameron Clarke tied for 40th after a 2-over second round. Junior Ross Bell is tied for 81st and 12-over for the tournament.
Host Auburn remains the team leader, and is 12-under going into the final round. David Kocher of Maryland sits atop the player leaderboard at 8-under.
Tuesday's final round tee time is scheduled for 8:40 a.m. CT, but the Bulldogs will not begin their run until 10:30. Live stats will be available through Golfstat.
"Tomorrow is a big day for us because it's our next opportunity, and we need to have all five guys in the round all day battling for every single shot," Smith said.
