Rudolph Claims Tie For Second In Collegiate Debut At USA Individual
February 13, 2018 | Men's Golf
MOBILE, Ala. – Freshman Goodman Rudolph shot consecutive 1-under 70s in the final two rounds of the USA Individual to finish tied for second in his collegiate debut at Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
"Mentally I played some of the best golf of my life," Rudolph said. "This week was certainly a big confidence boost and something I can build on for the future."
"Goodman was solid all week and will take a lot from his collegiate debut," Mississippi State men's golf head coach Dusty Smith said. "Any time you put yourself in contention to win a golf tournament, you learn and grow from that experience."
Rudolph's Top 5 finish is the second since the turn of the new year for Bulldog golfers at individual events -- January 28, Sophomore Peng Pichaikool tied for fifth at the Jones Cup Invitational against some of the nation's best collegiate talent.
Rudolph, from Cordova, Tenn., shot a 72 in Monday's first round, and was tied for fourth after two rounds Tuesday before shooting 1-under par in the final round to move into the second-place tie.
Rudolph finished behind Florida State's Bennett Baker, who shot a 209 overall.
Behind Rudolph, senior Jacob Ross shot a 220 into a tie for 16th in his first tournament of the season.
Also making collegiate debuts, freshmen Hunter Hammett and Austin Fulton shot 224 and 229, respectively, to start their Bulldog careers.
"I thought our guys got some great experience this week," Smith said. "I am proud of how they competed and handled the conditions."
Mississippi State men's golf is just four days away from continuing their season after the winter break. Dusty Smith and the Bulldogs tee off their spring on Saturday at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
"The future is bright for Mississippi State and I'm just glad to be a part of it," Rudolph said.
