MSU Falls In Three To LSU On Friday
October 06, 2017 | Volleyball
BATON ROUGE - 'Calling Baton Rouge' came up short for Mississippi State as it fell to LSU in three Friday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Â
The Bulldogs (9-11, 0-5 SEC) fell to LSU (12-4, 3-2 SEC) in three (13-25, 21-25, 12-25).
Â
"It's tough right now. It's a tough spot to be in for the players, me and the staff," third-year coach David McFatrich said. "When you see improvement in the practice court and it doesn't translate to the games, it can get frustrating. But, we're going to stick with the process and we're gonna keep chasing great."
Â
Set one featured a rough start as LSU doubled up early in the first. MSU had difficulty getting into a groove, as LSU capitalized on service aces and took advantage of an 8-1 run early to take the opening set, 25-13.
Â
The Dawgs came out communicating well with a lot of aggressiveness in the second set with a 7-3 lead. However, a string of errors allowed the Tigers to battle back.
Â
The two teams tied one another six times in an extremely competitive set. Even at 21, though, LSU scored the final four points. Khristian Carr had 4 kills and 5.0 points in the set.
Â
A kills battle ensued in the third. MSU went eye-for-eye with the Tigers until they took advantage of errors and kills. The Bulldogs rallied to make the score 24-22, but could not stop the Tigers in their 25-22 win to secure the set.
Â
MSU wraps up play this weekend at Texas A&M on Sunday. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network +.
