MSU Falls At Home To Georgia On Sunday
October 15, 2017 | Volleyball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - During its annual 'Dig Pink' match, Mississippi State fell to Georgia in three at home on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Georgia (13-8, 3-5 SEC) defeated MSU (9-14, 0-8 SEC) 14-25, 19-25, 16-25 to extend the Bulldogs' losing streak to eight.
Â
"I'm disappointed," third-year coach David McFatrich said. "We've got to get better. It's felt like we have been taking two steps forward and one step back, but today didn't feel like that. We passed the ball well, but we just couldn't put the ball away. It was a difficult day."
Â
Mississippi State, which has now dropped 20 sets in a row, came out with a lot of tenacity early in the first.
Â
Both teams were capitalizing off of kills to get the match started. Jelena Vujcin had 5 kills and 7.0 points while teammate Khristian Carr had 3 kills and 3.0 points to add to the scoreboard. The homestanding Bulldogs, however, had 11 errors, and Georgia took advantage en route to a 25-14 a win.
Â
Both Bulldogs were neck and neck during most of the second set. MSU had three blocks but struggled against Georgia's attack game. Kills were MSU's Achilles heel as Georgia used it to pull ahead and win, 25-19.
Â
Set three played out like the first two. Mississippi State had difficulty adding to the scoreboard, but did not lack any aggressiveness on the court. The Georgia Bulldogs took the set and the match, 16-25
