Bulldogs Fall On The Road During Sunday Contest At Arkansas
October 22, 2017 | Volleyball
FAYETTEVILLE - After a hard-fought game, Mississippi State fell to Arkansas in Fayetteville on Sunday afternoon, 18-25, 7-25, 18-25.
Â
With the win, Arkansas improved to 15-6 and 5-4 in SEC play, while MSU fell to 9-15, 0-9 SEC.
Â
"I thought we competed well in the first and third sets," third-year coach David McFatrich said. "I liked the way we battled back in the third set after the second got away from us. We're in a really tough stretch, but I firmly believe that good things are going to come from this."
Â
Mississippi State showed a lot of aggressiveness and communication in the first set. Khristian Carr had 5 kills, 5.0 points and a .625 hitting percentage, while Jelena Vujcin had 5 kills and 5.0 points as well. Tori Passarelli and Morgan Kath both added to the scoreboard with one service ace apiece. Despite the Bulldogs' effort, however, the homestanding Razorbacks claimed the win, 25-18.
Â
During the second set, the Bulldogs had the same competitiveness as in the opener. The first two points of the set were scored by MSU. Kills and errors were a factor again, as the Razorbacks took a large lead en route to a 25-7 victory.
Â
The third set showed the most competition of the afternoon, as it was back and forth for most of the game until the end. Vujcin had 3 kills and 4.0 points, while Sara Maddox had 3 kills and 3.0 points. Ultimately, MSU could not stop Arkansas' attack game and lost, 25-18.
Â
Mississippi State returns home on Friday to face Alabama. The matchup against the Crimson Tide will be on the SEC Network at 8 p.m.
