October 13, 2017 | Volleyball
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Despite the valiant effort, Mississippi State fell to Missouri in three in the Hearnes Center on Friday evening.
Â
MSU now stands at 9-13, 0-7 in the SEC, while Missouri improves to 12-7, 5-1 SEC.
Â
"I thought the first set tonight was one of the best we played all year," third-year Coach David McFatrich said. "I think our players found out what they could do against a really good Missouri team. We've gotta put that past us and get ready for Georgia on Sunday."
Â
Set one evolved into a kills battle as 25 were collected. Playing with rhythm and having great communication, the Bulldogs held Missouri to no more than a three-point game all match. Liv Benner had three kills and a .750 hitting percentage and Sara Maddox had four kills, 4.0 points and an .800 hitting percentage. MSU led the set with an attack percentage of .321. Ultimately, the Tiger won, 25-22.
Â
While aggressiveness was all there for the Bulldogs in the second set, 12 errors were too much to overcome. The set was close until the latter half as MSU kept Missouri within four points. The Tigers went on a seven-point run to claim a 25-15 win. Jelena Vujcin led the team with 4 kills and 4.5 points.
Â
In the third set, the Bulldogs came back to make things interesting on the court. From there, the match went back and forth with errors and kills. Even after playing well as a team, the Bulldogs could not stop the Tigers' attack game falling 25-20.
