However, her most impressive stat came in the form of 224 aces, which led the nation for this past season. Her domination on the court led Duzenack to be named the District 12-4A Most Valuable Player as she led Melissa High School to a 24-14 record and 9-2 in league play. The setter also reeled in an all-tournament honor her final year when her team competed in the North Central Texas College Volleyball Tournament.
The Texan has always been a force from the service line, having been the Dallas Morning News Stat Leader in service aces all four seasons at Melissa High School. She was also the paper’s stat leader in assists her sophomore and junior seasons, earning Co-Setter of the Year awards for district in both seasons. Her efforts in those two years landed her numerous awards, including Melissa High School Volleyball’s MVP (Junior Year) and Offensive MVP (Sophomore Year). Her junior campaign also saw her land on the Herald Democrat All-Texomaland Volleyball Second Team.
In her first season, Duzenack broke onto the scene in stellar fashion, going on to earn District 12-3A Newcomer of the Year.
Duzenack’s laurels didn’t stop on the high school stage, as she was one of the top performers for her club squad, Excel Volleyball. Most recently, Duzenack was on the 171 Nance club team, where she was named Team MVP for the year. She also earned Team MVP honors in 2014 for her 16 National Gray team. 2013 saw Duzenack earn a flurry of awards on the club stage. Her team, 15 American, earned first place at the USA Volleyball GJNC Tournament, while she landed on the USAV GJNC All-Tournament Team. Duzenack also earned Team Co-MVP honors that year for the 15 National Gray team.
When she’s not a force on the court, Duzenack is a standout student in the classroom. Duzenack has reeled in numerous academic awards in her four years on the high school scene. She was named Academic All-District all four years at Melissa High School and landed on the A-Honor Roll in 2012 and 2013. Duzenack also was awarded the 2014 Melissa High School Cardinal Spirit Award in 2012 and 2014.
When not on the volleyball court, Duzenack remains an avid sports fan, attending other sporting events frequently. She also enjoys taking time away from sports to read, work out and is an active participant in her youth group.
“I choose Mississippi State because everything about the school fit into my dream of a college. The family atmosphere that was presented on my very first visit made it very obvious that I wanted to make this place my home,” Duzenack said. “I am extremely excited to be a part od the family atmosphere and play for incredible coaches at the highest level.”
McFatrich on Duzenack: “I think Riley Duzenack is the perfect fit for what we’re trying to accomplish here at Mississippi State. She’s a young lady who works hard, sets a great ball, plays very good defense and will also help us from the service line. She is a great teammate and a great all-around volleyball player.”
