Coming to Starkville via Denton, Texas, is one of the top prospects in the nation in Emily Hill. A 6-1 outside hitter, Hill joins the Bulldog volleyball program as the No. 50 player in the nation and 12th-best in the state of Texas, according to MaxPreps.com.
A four-year letterwinner at John H. Guyer High School, Hill racked up one accolade after another in her time as a Wildcat. In her senior season as team captain, Hill accumulated 375 kills (.375%), 56 blocks, 32 aces and 256 digs in 83 sets played. For her performance, Hill was named to the LonestarVolleyball.com All-State Team, PrepVolleyball.com All-American Watch List and was ranked No. 52 on the PrepVolleyball.com National Senior Aces Top 100.
In 2014, Hill led the Dallas-Fort Worth Area in kills (660) and was named the Denton Record Chronicle Area Player of the Year and to the Dallas Morning News All-Area Team. The year prior, Hill earned Denton Record Chronicle Offensive Player of the Year honors.
For her four years, Hill accumulated eight All-Tournament awards and three Guyer High School Team MVP accolades, while being named First Team All-District three times. Hill has been the District MVP twice and the District Offensive MVP once.
On the club level, Hill was a member of the prestigious Texas Advantage Club. Highlighting her time with TAV was a third-place finish in the 17 Open Division at Junior Nationals.
Hill is a star-studded student in the classroom as well, holding an impressive 4.75 GPA and standing in the top 5 percent of her class. Hill was named Academic All-District four times and was most recently named Academic All-State. She has also received the Denton I.S.D. Varsity Athlete Academic Award four times and is a member of the National Honor Society.
When not on the court or in the classroom, Hill enjoys hanging out with friends, watching movies and exploring Denton (and soon Starkville).
“I chose Mississippi State because the coaches are amazing, I have the opportunity to be a part of the rebuilding of a great program. I also chose State because of the great academic opportunities it provides,” Hill said. “I can not wait to compete in the sport I love and in the conference I always dreamed of. I am proud to be a Bulldog and to have the opportunity to represent Mississippi State.”
McFatrich on Hill: “We’re looking at Emily Hill to come in and immediately help us as an outside hitter. Emily has very good ball control, serves well, plays great defense, has a great arm and can attack a wide variety of sets. She is accustomed to facing stiff competition and is also a very hard worker. We’re very excited to have her."
