CAREER: A national champion, multi-time SEC Champion and an Olympian, Marta Freitas is one of the most decorated athletes in Mississippi State history … Capped her MSU career winning another SEC Title, this time during the 2017 Indoor Championships' DMR ... Set a school-record time in the 1500m (4:06.54) to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games … Captured NCAA and SEC titles in the 1500m in 2016 … A 2015 cross country All-American, the third in school history.
2017 INDOOR SEASON: Granted a medical hardship waver by the NCAA in the final week of the season, Freitas was given one more shot to add to her already illustrious Mississippi State career. Marta, teaming up with Rhianwedd Price, Ffion Price and Alon Lewis, took home an SEC Title in the distance medley relay.
2016 RIO OLYMPICS: Qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics after posting an MSU-record 4:06.54 in the 1500m at the Campionats de Catalunya in Barcelona … Represented her native country of Portugal in the 1500m at Rio, finishing in the preliminary round with a time of 4:18.53
2016 OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON: Won the 1500m NCAA Championship in Oregon with a time of 4:09.53 … Captured the 1500m SEC Crown with a time 4:24.00 while finishing sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:08.48
2016 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON: Won the SEC Mile Run Championship with a time of 4:38.21 … Finished third in the 3000m at the SEC Championships with a program-record time of 9:22.18 … Ran the 1200m leg on the distance medley relay team which finished third at the SEC Championships with a total time of 11:15.89, the second-best time in MSU history.
2015 CROSS COUNTRY SEASON: Became the third All-American in school history after finishing 37th at the 2015 NCAA Championships with a time of 20:26.70 … Named to the All-Region team after garnering sixth place at the NCAA South Regionals with a time of 20:25.84 … Finished second overall in the Commodore Classic 5K with a time of 17:02.20 … Placed ninth at the SEC Championships after posting a time of 20:14.30 … Recorded a time of 20:15.20 to place 12th and first for the Bulldogs at the Pre-NCAA meet ... Finished 11th overall and first for MSU with a time of 17:25.20 at the Panorama Farms Invite … Named the SEC’s Women’s Runner of the Week for Sept. 21
2015 OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON: Finished 12th in the 1500m at the NCAA Championships with a time of 4:41.03 … Advanced to nationals after running a then personal-best 4:13.17 in the 1500m at the NCAA East Preliminaries … Finished third in the 1500m finals at the SEC Championships with a time of 4:19.38 … Placed seventh in the 800m finals at the SEC Championships with a time of 2:07.67
2015 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON: Finished 13th in the 4x400m relay at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a time of 3:54.18, competing with teammates Kimari Martin, Rhianwedd Price and Madison Milhoan.
