No. 51 Mississippi State women's tennis hits the road this week for a pair of SEC matchups, traveling to Oxford on April 2 to face in-state rival Ole Miss before heading south to Baton Rouge for a contest against LSU on April 4.
The Bulldogs enter the week following a pair of road losses. State fell to No. 2 Auburn, 7-0, on March 26 before dropping a 4-1 decision at Florida on March 28, marking the team's eighth loss of the season.
Mississippi State sits at No. 51 in the latest ITA team rankings. In doubles, three Bulldog pairings remain nationally ranked. Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz lead the way at No. 20, marking a top-20 presence for the maroon and white. Gianna Oboniye and Kempenaers-Pocz rank No. 32, while Athina Pitta and Oboniye hold steady at No. 52.
Ole Miss enters Thursday's matchup after a 4-1 loss to No. 7 Texas. The Rebels hold the recent edge in the series, with Mississippi State's last victory coming in 2017 (4-3). Ole Miss also claimed a 4-2 win over the Bulldogs in Starkville last season.
LSU will face Alabama on April 2 before hosting Mississippi State for a ranked showdown. The Tigers enter the week following a 4-1 loss to No. 3 Texas A&M. LSU defeated State 4-2 in Starkville last season, while the Bulldogs' last win over the Tigers came in 2019 with a 4-3 victory.
