
Five Bulldogs Set For ITA Southern Regional Championships

Baton Rouge, La. โ Mississippi State women's tennis continues its fall slate this weekend as five Bulldogs travel to LSU to compete in the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
Mia Robinson, Athina Pitta, Chiara Di Genova, Gianna Oboniye and Lauren Seye will represent the Maroon and White at the tournament, which runs Thursday through Monday at the LSU Tennis Complex and LSU UREC Tennis Courts.
The tournament features 16 programs from across the Southern Region competing in singles and doubles action. Qualifying singles matches begin Thursday at 8 a.m. CT, while main-draw singles and doubles competition gets underway Friday. The tournament will conclude Monday with championship matches.
Robinson and Seye enter the weekend following their appearance at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Alabama. Robinson highlighted the tournament with a pair of singles victories over athletes from UAB and Ole Miss. The duo also collected two doubles victories, defeating UAB's Damaskova and Tesankic in a 13-11 tiebreaker before taking down Baylor's Murray and Dong 6-3.
Pitta and Oboniye return to action after competing at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina. The sixth-seeded duo advanced through doubles prequalifying before earning a ranked victory over UCLA's No. 45 Olivia Center and Ahmani Guichard in three sets. Oboniye also found success in singles, advancing through qualifying to earn her first career appearance in the main draw. She continued her run with a 6-2, 6-4 upset over Florida's No. 11 Jana Hossam to reach the Round of 32.
Di Genova also returns to collegiate competition after earning a notable victory at the ITF W15 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Argentina native defeated world No. 722 and fourth-seeded Amelie Justine Hejtmanek 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
