Bulldogs Clash In Top 5 Matchup

STARKVILLE - A marquee Southeastern Conference showdown arrives at Dudy Noble Field this weekend as No. 4 Mississippi State hosts No. 5 Georgia in a three-game series that could carry significant early-season implications in the league race.
First pitch for Thursday and Friday will be at 6 p.m. while Saturday's finale will start at 1 p.m. All three games streaming on SEC Network+.
MSU (25-4, 7-2 SEC) enters the weekend as one of the nation's hottest teams, riding a nine-game winning streak and boasting an unblemished 18-0 mark at home. State has won 20 consecutive games at Dudy Noble Field dating back to last season, tying the third-longest home streaks in program history.
UGA (24-6, 7-2) presents one of the toughest test yet for Mississippi State, featuring one of the most explosive offenses in college baseball. Georgia leads the comparison on paper in power numbers, slugging .649 with 87 home runs, while MSU counters with a balanced attack hitting .336 as a team with a .443 on-base percentage.
The series opens Thursday night with sophomore left-hander Charlie Foster taking the ball for MSU against UGA right-hander Joey Volchko. Foster has shown flashes, including a strong outing at Ole Miss in his last start, but will be tested by a Georgia lineup that thrives on extra-base damage.
Friday's matchup could be the headline duel of the weekend as State sends out Tomas Valincius, who has emerged as one of the nation's most dominant arms. The sophomore is 6-0 with a 0.91 ERA and has not allowed an earned run in SEC play, holding conference opponents to a .109 batting average. He will face UGA's Dylan Vigue, giving the middle game a true ace-versus-ace feel.
Saturday's finale is slated to feature MSU right-hander Duke Stone, who is 5-0 with a 3.66 ERA and has steadily developed into a reliable weekend option. Georgia has not announced its pitching plans for Game 3.
Offensively, State continues to lean on one of the deepest lineups in the SEC. Bryce Chance has been nearly impossible to retire in conference play, hitting .471 without a strikeout in league action. Around him, MSU features a veteran core that includes Ace Reese, Noah Sullivan and Gehrig Frei — all capable of producing in the middle of the order.
Georgia's offense, however, presents a different challenge. UGA's ability to change games with one swing will test an MSU pitching staff that enters the weekend with a 3.14 ERA and a .205 opponent batting average.
The series history between the programs adds another layer of intrigue. Mississippi State holds a slim 53-51 edge all-time and took two of three meetings during the last series in Starkville in 2024, including a one-run victory in the finale.
With both teams sitting at 7-2 in SEC play, the weekend series could provide early separation in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested conference race.
