No. 4 Bulldogs Take Series Against The Bisons
March 06, 2026 | Baseball
STARKVILLE - Fourth-ranked Mississippi State erupted for six runs in the second inning and never looked back Friday night, powering past Lipscomb 9–4 at Dudy Noble Field.
The Diamond Dawgs improved to 13-2 on the season by capitalizing on patience at the plate and timely power, collecting 11 hits and drawing eight walks while keeping the Bisons at arm's length most of the evening.
MSU broke the game open in the second inning with a rally that showcased both power and opportunism. After Ryder Woodson worked a walk, Jacob Parker launched a two-run homer to right-center to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Mississippi State kept the pressure on with three more walks, a wild pitch that brought home Bryce Chance, and a three-run blast from Noah Sullivan to left-center that capped the six-run frame.
Lipscomb answered in the third when Hutson Miles doubled home a run and Aaron Stelogeannis followed with an RBI single to trim the lead to 6–2, but State's pitching staff settled in from there.
Starter Tomas Valincius struck out six over four innings for the Bulldogs, allowing two runs on four hits. The Diamond Dawgs' bullpen took over from there, highlighted by Tyler Pitzer, who earned the win with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts. Chris Billingsley Jr. and Jack Gleason finished the game to secure the victory.
Mississippi State added insurance in the sixth. After Chance reached on an error, Sullivan delivered again with an RBI single, and Gehrig Frei followed with a run-scoring hit to push the lead to 8–2.
The Bisons chipped away late. Keaton Mahan hit a solo home run in the seventh and Lipscomb scored again in the eighth following a fielding error that allowed a run to cross.
The Bulldogs answered immediately in the bottom half of the eighth. Sullivan doubled down the left-field line and later scored when Andrew Raymond lined an RBI single through the right side, stretching the MSU lead to 9–4.
Sullivan led the offensive charge for the Diamond Dawgs, going 4-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs. Frei added two hits and an RBI, while Raymond contributed two hits and a run driven in.
Lipscomb collected nine hits but struck out 14 times against Mississippi State pitching.
Mississippi State will go for its third-straight weekend sweep at home on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Diamond Dawgs will send sophomore right-hander Duke Stone (2-0, 3.95 ERA, 18 K, 2 BB) to the mound while the Bisons go with freshman southpaw Jackson Lee (1-0, 1.38 ERA, 16 K, 4 BB).
