No. 4 MSU Completes Sweep With 26-0 One-Hitter
March 07, 2026 | Baseball
STARKVILLE - No. 4 Mississippi State unleashed one of the most explosive offensive performances in program history Saturday morning at Dudy Noble Field, overwhelming Lipscomb 26-0 behind a 20-hit barrage and a one-hitter on the mound.
The 26 runs were the most scored by a Bulldog team since State defeated Alcorn State 27-4 on April 20, 2010 and surpassed the 25 runs MSU had at Missouri on May 15 last season. It was also the largest margin of victory since a 29-0 shutout of Mississippi Valley State on Feb. 24, 1999.
The Diamond Dawgs improved to 14-2 scoring in five consecutive innings and ending the game after seven innings due to the run rule.
MSU jumped on the scoreboard immediately in the first inning when Noah Sullivan blasted a two-run homer to left field after Drew Wyers opened the game with a single, giving the Bulldogs an early 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on in the second inning with five more runs. Wyers delivered an RBI single, Ace Reese added a run-scoring double, and Sullivan followed with an RBI single. Vytas Valincius drove in another run with a single before Chone James reached on an error that brought home another run to make it 7-0.
The game completely broke open in the third inning when State erupted for 12 runs, sending 16 batters to the plate. Reese lined a two-run single before Sullivan crushed a three-run homer to left-center for his second home run of the day. Ryder Woodson added a two-run single, Blake Bevis and Jacob Parker delivered RBI hits, and Kevin Milewski capped the inning with a pinch hit solo home run as the Diamond Dawgs surged to a 19-0 advantage.
Mississippi State continued to pile on in the fourth. Parker doubled in two runs, Peter Mershon added a sacrifice fly, and another run scored on a passed ball to push the lead to 23-0.
The Bulldogs added the final runs in the fifth inning when Gehrig Frei launched a two-run homer to center field after James drove in a run with a groundout, completing the offensive outburst.
Sullivan led the offensive explosion for MSU, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs, while Wyers finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Reese added two hits and three RBIs, Parker collected two hits and three RBIs off the bench while Bevis and Valincius posted two hits and an RBI apiece.
In total, the Diamond Dawgs scored 26 runs on 20 hits with 10 walks, striking out only four times while leaving just four runners on base.
The pitching was equally dominant. Duke Stone earned the win for Mississippi State, tossing four perfect innings with six strikeouts to improve to 3-0. Charlie Foster allowed Lipscomb's lone hit in the fifth inning before Dane Burns and Parker Rhodes finished the combined one-hitter with three more scoreless frames.
Lipscomb (6-8) struck out 10 times against the Bulldog pitching staff.
The Diamond Dawgs head to the coast for a midweek matchup with Tulane. MSU meets the Green Wave in Biloxi at Keesler Frederal Park on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Hancock Whitney Classic streamed on SEC Network+.
