
The Bulldogs Set to Head to The Lone Star State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – No. 33 Mississippi State women's tennis travels to Texas for their first two SEC road matches of the season.
MSU is scheduled to continue SEC play with a matchup against No. 8 Texas A&M in College Station on March 5 at 5 p.m. State will then head to Austin to close the weekend with a test against No. 14 UT on March 7 at 12 p.m.
Mississippi State enters the trip after completing a four-match homestand. The Bulldogs opened the stretch with a doubleheader against Tennessee (L, 4-2) and Eastern Kentucky (W, 4-0) on Feb. 26. State followed with a 4-1 victory over Kentucky on Feb. 28 before closing the run with a 4-0 sweep of Memphis on March 2.
The Bulldogs currently sit at No. 33 in the latest ITA team rankings. In doubles play, two State pairings represent the maroon and white. Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz sits at No. 18 and Chiara Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz slide into slot No. 71.
Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz delivered key performances during the recent homestand, helping secure the doubles point against Tennessee and Kentucky. The duo defeated Tennessee's No. 21-ranked pair of Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso, 6-4, before earning a 7-5 win over Kentucky's Zoe Hammond and Julia Zhu.
No. 8 Texas A&M enters the matchup riding a three-match winning streak, most recently defeating Missouri 4-0 in Columbia on March 1. Mississippi State last faced the Aggies in 2025, when Texas A&M claimed a 4-0 victory in College Station.
No. 14 Texas will host No. 28 Alabama before welcoming the Bulldogs to Austin two days later. The Longhorns are coming off a 5-2 road win over No. 35 Vanderbilt in Nashville. Mississippi State is 0-2 all-time against Texas, with the most recent meeting coming in 2025 when the Longhorns earned a 4-0 win in Starkville.
