Mississippi State Falls to Alabama in SEC Tournament Opener, 4-3

NORMAN, Okla. – No. 47 Mississippi State women's tennis dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to No. 55 Alabama in the opening round of the SEC Championships.
The Bulldogs came out strong in doubles play, securing the opening point with wins on courts one and two. The No. 37 duo of Athina Pitta and Gianna Oboniye set the tone with a dominant 6-1 ranked victory over Karla Bartel and Klara Milicevic.
No. 12 Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz followed on court one, clinching the doubles point with a 6-2 ranked win over No. 80 Addison Bowman and Kristina Paskauskas.
In singles play, Kempenaers-Pocz extended State's lead with a 6-2, 6-3 ranked victory over No. 78 Klara Milicevic. Oboniye added another point for the Bulldogs after Alabama's Kristina Paskauskas retired on court one.
Despite the early momentum, Alabama battled back, capturing the final three singles courts to secure the 4-3 victory and end Mississippi State's run in the conference tournament.
