State Seeks More Success At ITA Southern Regionals
October 15, 2024 | Men's Tennis
BATON ROUGE, La. – Mississippi State is headed to some familiar territory to open the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Wednesday.
The ITA Southern Regional Championships are hosted at the LSU Tennis Complex where the Bulldogs played twice last spring. MSU earned a top 20 win over the Tigers there during the regular season and also reached the quarterfinals of the SEC Championships back in April.
MSU has also experienced recent success at the ITA Southern Regionals. The last two ITA Southern Regionals saw Bulldogs reach the singles finals with Nemanja Malesevic representing State in 2022 and Petar Jovanovic repeating that feat last fall, which qualified both for the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, California.
The ITA Southern Regional is a six-day event that features student-athletes from 18 programs across Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi all competing individually.
State is sending eight Bulldogs to compete at the tournament starting with sophomore Marshall Landry beginning the opening round of singles qualifying against LSU's Jamie Diack on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
The rest of Matt Roberts' roster that made the trip to Baton Rouge all qualified for the main draw, which begins on Thursday.
