
Landry Splits Opening Day At ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – Marshall Landry split his singles matchups on Wednesday to open play for Mississippi State at the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
Landry lost a tight opening match in the first round of qualifying to LSU's Jamie Diack on his home court 6-4, 7-6(4). However, the sophomore from Pinehurst, North Carolina bounced back in a big way to beat Agustin Marquez of Alabama A&M 6-1, 6-2 in a consolation match to secure his second singles win of the fall.
Landry and seven other Bulldogs will be in action as part of Thursday's main draw. Landry and partner Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes begin doubles play against Tulane's Charlie Burdell and Steven Rice at 9 a.m. followed by Michal Novansky and Radomir Tomic against Marc Mail and Joseph Townes of New Orleans at 10 a.m.
The first round of the singles main draw starts at noon with the tournament's top seed and 12th-ranked Petar Jovanovic taking on LSU's Brock Anderson. Jovanovic finished as the runner-up at the 2023 ITA Southern Regional Championships in Auburn, Alabama to qualify for the ITA Fall National Championships.
Niccolo Baroni is also set to battle Samford's Darcy Nicholls on Thursday at 12 p.m. while Michal Novansky competes against Troy's Vicente Arbelaez Prati, also at noon.
No. 107 Benito Sanchez Martinez squares off against Louisiana's William Robero 1:30 p.m. at the same time Ferrer Guimares gets ready to play Tulane's Luc Hoeijmans. Tomic takes the court at 2 p.m. against Matei Palcau of Jacksonville State and 60th-ranked Mario Martinez Serrano tests Samford's Santiago Arredono at 2:30 p.m.
