Dennis Signs Gonzales For 2023 Season
May 31, 2023 | Volleyball
STARKVILLE – Head coach Julie Darty Dennis added a new addition to the Mississippi State volleyball roster for the 2023 season in Zoe Gonzales.
Gonzales, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker, joins MSU after spending two seasons at Jacksonville State. Prior to joining JSU, Gonzales spent two seasons at Wake Forest.
"We are really excited to bring in an experienced middle like Zoe," Dennis said. "Our middles had a great spring in our gym, but we knew we need a little more depth in that position and Zoe was the perfect fit. She is a mature, poised player who has played in two great conferences during her playing career. I am excited for her to join us here in StarkVegas for her final season of eligibility. Everyone please help us welcome Zoe to our family!"
During Gonzales' 2022 season at Jacksonville State, she saw significant action by appearing in 89 sets and making 23 starts. She collected 128 kills with a .300 hitting clip and finished second on the team with 71 blocks. During the season, Gonzales garnered 173.5 points (1.95 per set) for the squad.
In 2021, Gonzales appeared 28 matches and 88 sets during her first year as a Gamecock. She concluded her season with 161 kills and led the team with 91 blocks. She also led JSU with a .375 hitting percentage on the year and led the ASUN regular season hitting .404. Gonzales set a three-set record with 13 blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Stetson during the season. For her on court performance throughout the year, she was named Second Team All-ASUN.
While at Wake Forest for her sophomore year in 2020-21, Gonzales started 12 of WFU's 16 matches and finished with the second most blocks on the team at 36. She also hit .273 with 30 kills for the Demon Deacons.
As a freshman at WFU in 2019, she started eight matches and played 50 sets. Gonzales collected 47 kills and 41 blocks for the season.
The Longmont, Colorado native prepped at Niwot High, where she was named all-conference as a sophomore, junior and senior and earned all-state honorable mention as a junior and senior. Gonzales helped her team to became state finalist for four consecutive years and led the team to four straight conference championships. During her senior year, Gonzales tallied 238 kills with a .319 hitting percentage.
On the club circuit, Gonzales played for NORCO, the top club team in Colorado. She helped lead her team to becoming the Rocky Mountain Regional Champions in 2019.
