No. 5 Bulldogs Set to Tee off at the SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– The 5th-ranked Mississippi State women's golf squad is set to return to the course for the first event of the postseason on Wednesday where they will tee off from the SEC Championship. The five-day event will begin Wednesday, April 12th, and run through Sunday, April 16th.
The Greystone Golf and Country Club will set the stage for the event. The 2023 edition marks the 10th year for the Southeastern Conference Championship to be contested in the Birmingham metro area. The SEC has conducted its annual championship from the greens at Greystone since 2013.
The 2023 event will also mark the fifth time in which the championship will feature both stroke and match play, with match play on Saturday, April 15th and Sunday, April 16th. Three rounds of stroke play will begin the SEC Championship with the final round culminating the event and the crowning of a new Southeastern Conference champion. The final round on Sunday will be televised via the SEC Network.
The SEC Championship brings out some of the very best in women's collegiate golf and features a very competitive 14-team field including four teams ranked currently in the GolfStat top 10 and eight of the top-25 teams in the nation. Fifth-ranked State is joined by No. 3 LSU, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 10 Auburn, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 14 Ole Miss No. 19 Vanderbilt and No. 20 Florida in the top-25. No.27 Kentucky, No. 29 Georgia, No. 42 Tennessee, No. 45 Arkansas, No. 51 Alabama and No. 84 Missouri round out the field.
State will roll with the same lineup that featured the lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history at the UCF Challenge and three wins throughout the regular season.
Senior Abbey Daniel will take the number one spot in her 32nd career appearance. Daniel has appeared in every event for the Bulldogs this season and currently has a 73.1 scoring average.
Senior Hannah Levi will shoot second in her 40th career appearance. Levi has turned up the heat this spring, turning in some of the best finishes of her career, including back-to-back top-five finishes, finishing third at The Show and fourth in the Gators Invitational. Levi has had a very successful second half of her last regular season as a Bulldog as she now has five straight top-25 finishes this Spring.
Freshman Izzy Pellot has appeared in every event in her young Bulldog career and will shoot third in Phoenix. After two phenomenal performances to open up the spring in the UCF Challenge and The Show, freshman Izzy Pellot was named SEC Freshman of the Week following both events. Last time out, Pellot tied for 27th in the PING/ASU Invitational.
In her sixth career team appearance, Surapa Janthamunee will shoot fourth and has become a staple of the Bulldog lineup this Spring as a Freshman. Janthamunee, nicknamed SJ, tied for 38th at the PING/ASU Invitational.
Rounding out the lineup is Julia Lopez Ramirez , competing in her 22nd event in the Maroon and White. Lopez Ramirez carded her 37th round of par or better golf to finish third at the PING/ASU Invitational and is ranked as the fifth-best women's collegiate golfer in the nation heading into the postseason. Lopez Ramirez now has six top-five finishes in nine events played this spring and 13 overall in 21 career events. After leading the way for State throughout the PING/ASU Invitational, Lopez Ramirez was tabbed SEC Women's Golfer of the Week for the fifth time.
The Bulldogs will see tee times for all three days of stroke play in the tournament. The tee time for round one is 8:00 AM CT. State will be paired with No. 3 LSU and No. 4 South Carolina to open up play.
