March 23, 2023 | Women's Golf
PHOENIX – The 7th-ranked Mississippi State women's golf squad is set to return to the course for the final event of the regular season on Friday where they will tee off from the PING/ASU Invitational. The three-day event will begin Friday, March 24th, and run through Sunday.
The Papago Golf Club will set the stage for the 54-hole stroke play event. The Papago Golf Club was recently chosen as the home of the men's and women's Arizona State University Golf teams. Papago Golf Club is centered within Papago Park and surrounded by native deserts. This golf course is the center point of where Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale meet, giving golfers a great view of the Valley of the Sun and Camelback Mountain from the greens.
The 2023 edition of the PING/ASU Invitational marks the 50th anniversary and features a very competitive 17-team field including three teams ranked currently in the GolfStat top 10 and seven of the top-15 teams in the nation. Seventh-ranked State is joined by No. 5 Oregon, No. 8 Texas, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 USC, No. 14 Baylor, No. 15 Arizona, and No. 23 Northwestern rounding out the top-25. No. 33 Michigan, No. 35 Michigan State, No. 39 California and No. 42 New Mexico round out the teams ranked within the top 50. Colorado, Kansas, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State round out the field.
While the team field is competitive, the individual race will be just as daunting at the PING/ASU Invitational. 11 of the Top-50 golfers in the Golfstat Individual rankings will be in the field, including fifth-ranked sophomore Bulldog standout Julia Lopez Ramirez. A total of 26 of the Top 100 golfers will be at the PING/ASU Invitational.
The 17-team field will compete in three rounds of stroke play, with one round taking place each day. An individual and team champion will be crowned after 54 holes. Papago Golf Course is set up as a Par 72 at 6,543 yards.
State will roll with the same lineup that featured the lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history at the UCF Challenge and a win at The Show.

Freshman Izzy Pellot has appeared in every event in her young Bulldog career and will shoot third in Phoenix. After two phenomenal performances to open up the spring in the UCF Challenge and The Show, freshman Izzy Pellot was named SEC Freshman of the Week following both events. Last time out, Pellot picked up her third consecutive top-ten finish, finishing ninth at the Gators Invitational. Pellot is ranked 82nd individually.
In her fifth career team appearance, Surapa Janthamunee will shoot fourth and has become a staple of the Bulldog lineup this Spring as a Freshman. Janthamunee, nicknamed SJ, tied for 46th at the Gators Invitational and is ranked 182nd. Individually.
