
Dawgs Drop Game Two To No. 10 Texas A&M

The series between Mississippi State and No. 10 Texas A&M concludes at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday
Mississippi State jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings before Texas A&M cut the lead in half with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. State extended the lead to 5-2 in the top of the fifth, but the Aggies answered back with their second two-run home run of the game to make it a one-run game.
A&M took its first lead of the game by plating two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but State answered right back when Brad Cumbest homered in the eighth to tie the game at 6-6. The Aggies delivered the final blow in the bottom of the eighth with three hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly to take a 9-6 lead.
Mississippi State starter Preston Johnson allowed four runs on five hits, while striking out three and walking three in six innings on the mound. Jackson Fristoe came on in the seventh and allowed two runs on a hit and a walk. Pico Kohn (2-2) was charged with the loss after coming on in relief in the eighth and allowing three runs on three hits and a walk.
The Diamond Dawgs out-hit Texas A&M 11-9 on Saturday with RJ Yeager (2-for-5) and Hunter Hines (2-for-3) each recording multi-hit efforts. Hines and Brad Cumbest (1-for-4) each homered in the contest, while Jess Davis was 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the second inning. Luke Hancock and Kellum Clark were each 1-for-4 on the day and drove in a run apiece.

Mississippi State took an early lead in game two when Kamren James laced a one-out double down the left field line to set up a two-run home run by Jess Davis, his first of the season. Tanner Leggett and RJ Yeager followed up with back-to-back singles and executed a double steal to give State a pair of runners in scoring position. Luke Hancock brought home the third Mississippi State run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to left that scored Leggett.

Top Third
The Diamond Dawgs extended their lead to four the next inning when Hunter Hines led off with a solo home run to left. It marked the 15th home run of the season for the freshman.

Bottom Third
Texas A&M cut State's lead in half in the bottom half when shortstop Kole Kaler reached on an infield single before Dylan Rock's two-run home run to left that got the Aggies on the board.

Mississippi State added to its lead in the fifth when Luke Hancock led off with a single to shortstop and later came around to score on an RBI single by Kellum Clark to extend the lead to three.

Texas A&M made it a one-run game the next half inning after Kole Kaler drew a one-out walk before Trevor Werner homered to left field.

Texas A&M took its first lead of the game after a one-out walk and hit by pitch set up a bases-clearing double by Jack Moss.

Brad Cumbest tied the game at 6-6 the next inning with a solo home run, his second long ball of the series.

Texas A&M scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning after a lead-off walk followed by a single, an RBI double by Ryan Targac, a sacrifice fly by Jordan Thompson and an RBI single by Trevor Werner.
