
State Falls to Georgia in Walk-Off Fashion

The series finale is set for 11 a.m. CT on Sunday at Foley Field in Athens
In the bottom of the ninth, Georgia loaded the bases before shortstop Cole Tate delivered a one-out RBI single to secure the 12-11 walk-off victory for the host Bulldogs.
The two teams threw a total of 11 pitchers on the afternoon, while both Mississippi State and Georgia issued a combined 21 walks on Saturday.
MSU righthander Brandon Smith (1-1) was charged with the loss despite a solid three innings of relief for the Diamond Dawgs. Smith allowed three runs on four hits and struck out four while not issuing a walk in the outing. Parker Stinnett started for MSU and went 3.2 innings while allowing four runs on two hits, eight walks and striking out two. Pico Kohn pitched 1.2 innings in relief of Stinnett, while Cam Tullar and Jackson Fristoe came on and pitched in the ninth for State.
Yeager led the Dawgs at the plate with a 2-for-5 effort that included a grand slam, while Luke Hancock put together a three-hit day with a 3-for-6 effort at the plate with two doubles. Brad Cumbest was 2-for-5 with a home run, while Kellum Clark was 1-for-3 with a home run for MSU. Every MSU starter reached base on the afternoon, while the Diamond Dawgs out-hit Georgia 12-10 on Saturday.

Mississippi State started the scoring early after Logan Tanner and Hunter Hines recorded back-to-back doubles in the gap for a 1-0 lead. Hines later scored on a wild pitch, while Kellum Clark walked and came around to score on a sacrifice fly to left by Lane Forsythe.

Bottom Third
Georgia cut State's lead to two in the bottom half of the third following a leadoff walk to 2B Cory Acton, who later came around to score on an RBI single by catcher Corey Collins.

Top Fourth
Mississippi State responded the next half inning with a pair of two-out walks followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Kamren James and Luke Hancock to make it a four-run lead.

Georgia made it a one-run game in the bottom of the fourth after scoring three runs on a hit, four walks and an error.

Top Fifth
Kellum Clark gave State a two-run cushion with one out in the fifth when he launched a solo home run to right field, his team-high sixth of the year.

Bottom Sixth
Georgia answered once again by putting together a six-run inning in the sixth thanks to four hits, two walks and an error to give the host Bulldogs their first lead of the game.

Top Seventh
RJ Yeager made it a brand new ball game in the seventh when he came to the plate with bases loaded and two outs. Yeager jumped on the first pitch he saw and sent it out of the park in left for a grand slam that tied the game.

Georgia took the lead once again in the eighth when catcher Corey Collins led off the inning with a solo home run to centerfield.

Top Ninth
With State down to its final two outs, Brad Cumbest came through for the Diamond Dawgs with a solo home run of his own to left field to tie the game at 11-11.
