STARKVILLE - Mississippi State's women's tennis team is set to host a doubleheader against Southern Miss and James Madison inside the Rula Tennis Pavilion on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
The 55th-ranked Bulldogs (6-3) are coming off a pair of close 4-3 losses to SMU and Baylor this past weekend.
Southern Miss (6-0) has been dominating so far this season, winning its matches by a combined 24-6 score. State has won the past 23 matchups with the Golden Eagles, including a 7-0 win last season.
JMU (4-6) enters after a tough 4-3 loss to Missouri on Wednesday. This will be the first meeting between the Bulldogs and the Dukes.
The Maroon and White have won 51 consecutive non-conference home matches dating back to the 2012-13 season.
Doubles play for MSU has been headlined by the No. 39 duo of Magda Adaloglou and Chloé Cirotte as well as the senior pairing of Emmanouela Antonaki and Tamara Racine. These two tandems have combined for a 13-2 record in dual match play with Adaloglou and Cirotte having won nine of their last 10 matches. Similarly, Antonaki and Racine have defeated seven of their past eight opponents.
In singles play, the Bulldogs have amassed an impressive 30-13 mark in dual match play so far this spring. The No. 1 and 2 spots have been especially crucial for State, combining for a 12-3 ledger.
Cirotte, the reigning ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year, has been on fire in singles play as of late. She has emerged victorious in 11 of her last 12 matches and has a stout 4-0 record in the No. 3 spot of the singles lineup.
Two seniors from Greece have been showing their mettle in singles play this season. The 69th-ranked Antonaki has secured three straight wins as well as a 6-2 record in dual match play. Meanwhile, Adaloglou has also won her last three matches and has earned a splendid 5-1 mark in dual match play.
Antonaki has another opportunity to move up the record books this week. This past weekend, she moved into fifth in all-time career singles wins with 70. She needs two more to move into a tie for fourth all-time with Jasmine Lee (2015-17) and Jackie Holden (1986-89), who each have 72.
Also, Antonaki needs a pair of doubles wins to move into a tie for fifth place in career doubles wins with Anastasia Rentoulli (2016-19) and Georgiana Patrasc (2013-16) with 63 victories.
For parking on Saturday's matches, there will be a shuttle bus running from Zacharias Village to the tennis facilities starting at 9 a.m. until 30 minutes following the final match.
